Supplying Files
This Page
is intended as a guide to help avoid the potential pitfalls of file
preparation. It is designed to help you provide us with accurate
workable files so that we can complete your printing to schedule.
Your document setup
The maximum document size for printing is SRA2 or 450mm by 640mm, but
you should work within this size to allow for a non-printable area
outside of regular A2. You may prefer to work at SRA3 size or 320 x
450 mm, you should therefore set up your file no larger than A3 or
297mm by 420mm.
Image size & File Resolution
You will get the best results by providing us with image files
(pictures and graphics) of 300dpi, and at the size at which they
appear in your document. However smaller files can work but please
don't expect us to make a poor quality image look fantastic
If in doubt, please consult our free advice line on 0113 278 4286
Image File types
There are a large number of image file types supported by The City
Press Leeds Ltd. These include TIF, EPS, JPEG and BMP (please take
note of our file resolution notes above). Images should be saved as
CMYK where ever possible.
Fonts
If you are providing your file in Adobe Acrobat PDF format then please
ensure that you have distilled your file selecting the option to
'embed' all fonts. When this is the case you do not need to
supply the font to us in addition to this file.
Although we have a very extensive font range, it is still always wise
to include both the printer and screen fonts with your job, unless you
are embedding them in PDFs.
Software packages
In most cases all of the following packages will provide files we can
print from, as long as you have followed the other advice in SUPPLYING
FILES.
The following software produces excellent results and are recommended:
 |
Quark
Xpress |
 |
Adobe
Acrobat PDF (with your fonts and pictures embedded) |
 |
Adobe
Illustrator |
 |
Adobe
Pagemaker |
 |
Adobe
Photoshop |
 |
Macromedia
Freehand |
The Following programmes can produce files that can be used for
printing, but carry £25.00 handling charge for file preparation
Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint & Excel, Corel Draw & Microsoft
Publisher.
How to plan up your artwork
If you happen to be producing artwork for an item that you believe
will be printed "several up" on the page, then please ensure you allow
5mm trim between images (except for book work), contact us for further
information if required. An example of this would be if you are
producing artwork for a business card or postcard. If in doubt contact
us and we will provide an illustration of how to supply your artwork
or set your file just "one up" and allow us to plan your files for
you.
